Department of Forensic Dentistry

At Watim Dental College, the Department of Forensic Dentistry led by PMDC registered Forensic Dentist is dedicated to the integration of dental sciences with legal investigations, offering specialized education, research, and services. Our program aims to equip students and professionals with the knowledge and skills required to apply dental expertise in identifying human remains, assessing trauma, and assisting in criminal investigations. There is a growing need of Forensic Dentists in Asia and specifically Pakistan and Watim Dental College currently is the only dental Institute in Pakistan which has taken the initiative of establishing a PMDC recognized Department of Forensic Dentistry and Forensic Laboratory.

Through a comprehensive curriculum and practical training, students will explore key areas such as:

  • Human Dental Identification: Utilizing dental records for human identification in mass disasters, criminal cases, and missing person investigations.
  • Bite Mark Analysis: Investigating bite marks found on victims or suspects in forensic cases.
  • Age Estimation: Assisting in legal cases by estimating the age of individuals based on dental development and other markers.
  • Legal Aspects: Understanding the role of forensic dentists within the legal and judicial systems, including court testimony and report writing.
  • Ethics in Dentistry: Emphasizing the importance of ethical considerations, including the responsible handling of sensitive data, respect for human dignity, and the proper conduct of forensic investigations in compliance with legal and professional standards.

Our department collaborates with law enforcement agencies, forensic experts, and medical institutions, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in real-world forensic cases. We are committed to advancing the field through cutting-edge research while adhering to the highest ethical standards, making a vital contribution to both dentistry and the legal system.
